YouTube’s Stereoscopic 3D Feature Works On Zalman Technology

3DGUY uses Zalman monitors to playback all 3D content that we create. Recently 3DGUY discovered something very interesting. When viewing 3D content on YouTube using the Zalman 3D display technology, users have the ability to view online content in the stereoscopic 3D format. Bye Bye anaglyph!

YouTube has been experimenting with its 3D feature for quite some time now and thousands of viewers every day watch anaglyph (red and cyan) style videos online. Now it appears that for audience members using a Zalman Trimon monitor, or even a new 3D capable Acer Aspire laptop, high quality 3D is available online for you now. Read more to find out how to do it.

The current concern with 3D technology is the fact that 3D content isn’t widely spread at this moment in time. 3D Blu-ray is coming, but at no great speed. YouTube’s 3D feature, which although is in an ‘alpha test’ status works perfectly in displaying stereoscopic 3D content. To test out your monitors 3D capabilities on YouTube simply follow these simple steps…

1)     Visit YouTube .com and find a 3D video taking advantage of the websites feature. Take one of ours for example – 3D Samurai Demo Reel

2)     Simply scroll down beyond the page break and click on the drop down list situated below the video (as shown in the images below).

3)     Depending on your 3D capabilities, you can choose to view the video in anaglyph 3D (which isn’t recommended)… or you can choose the Row Interleave 1 (Alpha Test) which on 3DGUY’s monitors works beautifully.

Please comment and let me know if the YouTube feature works on any other monitors 3DGUY hasn’t yet had chance to test.

Whilst on the subject of Zalman, the latest Zalman 3D display technology will soon be available. The Zalman ZM-M215W 3D monitor will soon be released onto the European market.

The 21.5”, full HD 3D display (pictured above) supports both 2D and 3D visualizations. The monitor utilizes 5ms response time, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, a 300cd/m2 brightness and displays content in full 1920 x 1080p. The Zalman ZM-M215W display offers both D-Sub and DVI connectivity and it comes with a single set of stereoscopic 3D viewing glasses.

The latest 3D monitor from Zalman will be available in Europe in the near future, with a price tag of 265 euros (around $355).
